De Graafschap came up short against Almere City FC and saw their season end after a 2-2 draw. The home team had to make up a two-goal deficit and started the game strongly. However, the first chance fell to the visitors, but goalkeeper Ties Wieggers made a save and the ball went wide. On the other side, there was a first small opportunity via a header from Kyano Kwint from a long throw-in by Rowan Besselink. Midway through the first half, the atmosphere on the tribunes was excellent and De Graafschap went full throttle, but big chances were scarce. Kwint got another header chance and Wieggers kept the home team on their toes with a great save when he headed the ball out of the goal with his fingertips. However, the opening goal ultimately fell to the other side. Ferdy Druijf headed in the 0-1 in the 36th minute, making the deficit over two games 1-4. De Graafschap tried to get something back before the break via Chahid el Allachi, but his shot went wide. In injury time, El Allachi got another serious header chance, but he couldn't get enough pressure on the ball, and that opportunity was lost. So the Achterhoekse Trots went into the break with a difficult starting position. De Graafschap came out strongly from the dressing room and quickly made the equalizer. From a corner, Besselink headed the ball in with his foot for the 1-1. Not long after, the same Besselink was close to his second of the evening, but his quick volley from an unexpected ball flew just over the goal. The home team continued to look for more goals, but got another blow when Almere City FC scored the 1-2 from a distance via the inside of the post. Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen then made several attacking substitutions to try to force something. Nils Eggens got a big chance from close range, but his effort was cleverly blocked by the goalkeeper of Almere City FC. Also, a header from Joran Hardeman was still overhit. In the final phase, De Graafschap had to continue with ten men after Besselink was sent off with a red card for a sliding tackle on a broken player. However, the team continued to fight and scored the 2-2 in deep injury time when Kwint headed the ball in. De Graafschap played out 2-2 against Almere City FC, but that was not enough to make up the deficit from the first game. The Achterhoekse Trots fought to the end and gave everything on De Vijverberg, but ended up stranded in the second round of the play-offs. That meant the season was officially over.
